The Pre-K year is an exciting bridge between early childhood and kindergarten. Children are becoming more independent, asking deeper questions, solving more complex problems, and developing the confidence to take on new challenges. At Roots Learning Center, our Pre-K program builds on these growing abilities while preparing children academically, socially, and emotionally for a successful transition to kindergarten.

Kindergarten Readiness Through Meaningful Learning

Our curriculum introduces and strengthens the foundational skills children will need for kindergarten through hands-on, developmentally appropriate experiences. Children aren't simply taught what to know—they are encouraged to think, explore, ask questions, make connections, and become active participants in their own learning.

Throughout the year, children build skills in:

• Early reading & literacy

• Letter recognition, sounds & beginning phonics

• Pre-writing & early writing skills

• Math & number concepts

• Science, discovery & problem-solving

• Fine & gross motor development

• Communication & language

Growing Independence

Being ready for kindergarten involves much more than knowing letters and numbers. Pre-K children are encouraged to take greater responsibility for themselves, their belongings, and their classroom.

Teachers support children as they practice following multi-step directions, completing daily routines, making choices, working independently, participating in a group, and asking for help when they need it.

These everyday experiences help children develop the confidence and self-sufficiency they'll need when they enter kindergarten.

Learning to Work Together

Pre-K is also an important year for strengthening friendships and learning how to be part of a classroom community. Children practice communicating their ideas, listening to others, working together, resolving conflicts, managing emotions, and showing kindness and respect.

Our teachers guide children through these experiences while helping them develop the social and emotional skills that are just as important to kindergarten success as academics.

We want children to leave Roots knowing more—but, even more importantly, wanting to know more.

Our teachers encourage children to wonder, investigate, experiment, create, make mistakes, try again, and discover solutions for themselves. By giving children opportunities to think independently and take pride in their accomplishments, we help build confidence that extends far beyond the classroom.

By the end of their Pre-K year, our goal is for children to leave Roots feeling confident, capable, independent, and excited about becoming kindergartners.

We want them to have the academic foundation they need for school, but we also want them to carry something even more important with them—a curiosity and love of learning that continues long after they leave Roots.
