The toddler years are filled with incredible growth. In a short period of time, children go from taking their first steps and saying their first words to becoming increasingly independent, curious, and eager to do things for themselves. At Roots Learning Center, we embrace this exciting stage and partner with families as children learn, explore, and discover just how much they can do.

Learning Through Exploration

Toddlers learn by doing. Our classrooms provide plenty of opportunities to move, explore, create, build, talk, sing, read, and play. Teachers introduce new experiences while allowing children the freedom to follow their interests, make choices, and develop skills at their own pace.

Each day includes a consistent routine that helps toddlers know what to expect while still leaving plenty of room for discovery and fun. Through hands-on learning and everyday experiences, children begin developing language, problem-solving skills, coordination, creativity, and confidence.

Building Independence

“I can do it!” becomes an important part of the toddler years. Our teachers encourage children to practice age-appropriate self-help skills such as feeding themselves, drinking from a cup, washing hands, cleaning up, making choices, and eventually beginning the potty-learning process.

We recognize that every child reaches these milestones at a different pace. Our teachers meet children where they are, offering encouragement and support without rushing the process.

Learning to Be Part of a Community

The toddler years are also when children begin learning how to navigate friendships and big emotions. Teachers help children develop the language and skills they need to express themselves, take turns, begin sharing, solve simple conflicts, and understand the feelings of others.

These everyday interactions help build the social-emotional foundation children will carry with them as they grow.

Small Groups, Meaningful Relationships

Our toddler classrooms maintain a 2 teacher to 9 children ratio, allowing teachers to truly get to know each child's personality, interests, routines, and individual needs.

Strong relationships remain at the center of everything we do. Consistent, responsive teachers provide the security toddlers need to confidently explore their environment and become increasingly independent.

Ready for the Next Step

As children approach preschool age, we begin preparing them for their next classroom. Transitions are gradual, giving children time to visit their new environment, become familiar with their teachers and classmates, and adjust to new routines before making the full transition.

Families and teachers work together throughout the process so that each child feels comfortable, confident, and excited about what comes next.
